Ukrainian railroad workers are participating in the construction of a railway in the direction of Kermanshak-Malaer in Iran, the Ukrzaliznytsia public railway company announced.
"The Ukrainian Ministry of Infrastructure promptly processed an agreement with the Iranian Ministry of Roads and Urban Development. We have been authorized to sign the relevant contract, which will soon be done," said Ukrzaliznytsia’s Board Chairman Wojciech Balczun.
About 100 workers from the Prydniprovsk railway will perform complex of construction works. The first stage involves assembly and laying of track sleeper bars for 165 kilometers of railway tracks, installation of 138 sets of railway switches, laying of 176 kilometers of continuous welded tracks, and other works.
According Balczun, such agreements are a significant event because apart from additional income for employees and generation of additional funds, the company is creating a reputation for itself.
"Strategically, we are creating a reputation for Ukrzaliznytsia to ensure its presence in future large-scale projects, which are now embodied by Iran. In general, Iran is currently building 5,000 kilometers of tracks and plans construction of an additional 4,000 kilometers. We expect to get our share of this market. For the company, it is extremely important to participate effectively in the creation of the East-West caravan route on the Iranian territory," said Balczun.
As reported, a Ukrainian government delegation visited Iran in March 2016.
