The Ukrzaliznytsia public railway company will receive special equipment that will allow it to triple the speed of electrification of railway tracks, Deputy Minister of Infrastructure Volodymyr Omelian announced in an interview with Tsenzor.net.
"We hope to buy a unique thing that does not exist in Ukraine. It is a mechanism for automatic installation for power systems for Ukrzaliznytsia, which should increase in the speed of electrification of tracks about threefold," Omelian said without specifying the cost of this equipment.
According to him, part of a German loan of EUR 50 million will be used to purchase the equipment.
This EUR 50 million was initially expected to be spent on construction of a concrete road in the Donbas, but Germany has rejected that project. The structure of expenditure of the loan was then reviewed, with a significant part of it being paid directly into the state budget as macro-financial assistance and "the Ministry of Energy taking a lot for itself."
The Ministry of Infrastructure will spend the remainder of the loan on modernization of about 50 locomotives and purchase of special equipment for electrification of tracks for Ukrzaliznytsia.
