The Ukrainian Railways joint-stock company (Ukrzaliznytsia) carried 9.1 million passengers during the period of June-August 2021.

Ukrzaliznytsia announced this in a statement, the CFTS portal reports.

According to the statement, 7.4 million passengers used night trains, 1.1 million passengers used Intercity+ high-speed trains, and 0.6 million passengers used regional trains.

In summer 2021, 25 additional pairs of trains were operated to the most popular tourist and resort destinations in addition to 104 pairs on year-round routes.

Also in the summer, Ukrzaliznytsia continued the announced program to save passengers' travel time by optimizing train timetables and speeding up the trains No. 86/85 Lviv- Novooleksiivka, No. 228/227 Kyiv-Berdiansk, No. 116/115-136/135 Kyiv-Berdiansk, Avdiivka, and No. 357/358, No. 217/218, No. 243/244 Kyiv-Rakhiv.

"Compared with the summer passenger transportation in the quarantine-hit 2020, the current figures have increased by 130% and are 70% closer to the indicators of 2019," Ukrzaliznytsia said in the statement.

As the CFTS portal reported earlier, Ukrzaliznytsia transported 9.5 million passengers on long-distance routes in the first half of 2021.
