The Yanair airline company launched regular Kiev-Tbilisi flights on 19 August, a press release from the airline states.
According to the press release, the flights will be operated three times a week - on Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Sundays. The minimum cost of a roundtrip flight from Kiev is UAH 4,294; the minimum cost of a flight from Tbilisi is EUR 190.
The airline's General Director Yaroslav Ahafonov told a press conference that the flights would be operated all year round, but the number of flights would be reduced in winter.
According to him, the airline’s aircraft will fly to Georgia via Odessa because of airspace restrictions. This will increase the travel time by 20 minutes, but it will not affect the cost of the tickets.
Georgy Zakarishvili, a minister-counsellor at the embassy of Georgia in Ukraine, said that the number of Ukrainians travelling to Georgia increased by 23% to 62,000 in the first six months of 2014.
He predicted that the number would exceed the number that traveled to the country in 2013 by the end of the year.
Yanair Ltd. was registered in Zhitomir in June 2012. It began operating flights in August 2013. The carrier currently has a fleet of two Saab-340 and two Airbus 320 planes. The company expects to take delivery of a Boeing 737-300 plane before the end of the month.
