The Boryspil international airport has presented the draft of a new offer of discounts on airport charges for new regular international flights. The draft document proposes to increase the maximum discount on the passenger charge for takeoff and landing to 80%, the CFTS correspondent reports from a press conference in Boryspil.
As in the previous version of the draft regulations on discounts, the new draft document proposes extending the discounts for new flights by airlines by four years. Airlines will be eligible for the following rates of discounts: 80% in the first year, 60% in the second year, 40% in the third year, and 20% in the fourth year. The document also proposes granting an 80% discount for transit passengers.
The Boryspil international airport’s Commercial Director Maksym Voloshin said that the discount on the passenger charges would be applied proportionally to the margin by which passenger traffic increases from 100,000 passengers.
As reported, the Boryspil international airport previously considered the following discount rates: 75% in the first year, 50% in the second year, 25% in the third year, and 10% in the fourth year. The discount was proposed for takeoff and landing and the passenger service charge.
"We demand that carriers reflect this discount in their ticket prices. We do not want a carrier to increase its profit due to our discount," the airport's General Director Pavlo Riabikin said.
As reported, the Ministry of Infrastructure recently published a draft order that proposed lowering the airport charge for the handling of passengers on international flights at the Boryspil airport. In particular, the draft order proposed charging USD 13 per passenger instead of the current USD 17. "We believe and we are convinced that reduction of airport fees and liberalization of tariff policy will allow Ukrainian citizens to obtain cheap flight tickets, significantly increase passenger traffic, attract new airlines, and, consequently, increase the airport's profitability based on the a market-based, competitive model. We should also learn to generate funds from non-aviation operations," Minister of Infrastructure Volodymyr Omelian said in connection with this initiative.
