Canadian partners will help to solve logistical problems to increase the throughput capacity of the Ukrainian railway.

The Ukrainian Ministry of Infrastructure announced this in a statement, the CFTS portal reports.

The corresponding agreement was reached during talks between Ukraine’s Minister of Infrastructure Oleksandr Kubrakov, Canada’s Minister of Transport Omar Alghabra, representatives of the Ukrainian Ministry of Infrastructure and the Canadian Ministry of Transport, and the heads of the Ukrainian Railways joint-stock company (Ukrzaliznytsia) and the Railway Association of Canada.

According to Kubrakov, over 6,000 kilometers of railway tracks have been damaged or fallen out of Ukraine’s control, fifty bridges have been destroyed, and dozens of railway stations have gone out of operation since the beginning of Russia’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine.

"We and our Canadian partners agreed to set up a joint working group, within which we will jointly determine priority cooperation projects. We expect to decide on specific projects in the near future and begin implementing them. I am confident that the experience of Canadian railway workers will enable us not only to restore the infrastructure, but also to improve it significantly," Kubrakov said.

In particular, the Canadian Pacific Railway Company (CP) and the Canadian National Railway Company (CN) will provide expert support to Ukrzaliznytsia on the issues of management of railways, development of logistics capabilities, and reconstruction of infrastructure.

Kubrakov also invited Canadians to participate in the implementation of key infrastructure projects in the areas of road management, development of maritime transport, and the port industry.
