The volume of cargo transportation on River Dnipro increased by 305,900 tons or 1.5 times to 788,900 in the period of January-February 2021, compared with the corresponding period of 2020.

The Ukrainian Seaports Authority (USPA) announced this in a statement, the CFTS portal reports.

According to data from the River Information Service of Ukraine, 757 trips were performed on River Dnipro in the period of January-February 2021, a 154.8% increase compared with 489 trips in the corresponding period of 2020.

"Most of the cargo transported on the river was construction cargo. The volume of transportation of construction cargo increased 1.7 times to 403,300 tons," the statement said.

The volume of transportation of grain on the river increased by 39% to 308,200 tons in the period of January-February 2021, compared with the corresponding period of 2020.

"In addition, metal products are actively transported along the river. The volume of transportation of metal goods on the river increased 3.7 times to reach 77,400 tons," the USPA said in the statement.

The volume of cargo transportation in 2021 was influenced by, among other things, the fact that the 2020 navigation season on the river ended only on 15 January this year.

As the CFTS portal reported, 483,000 tons of cargo was transported on River Dnipro in January-February 2020, a 6.2-fold increase compared with 78,100 tons in the corresponding period of 2019.
