Seaports in continental Ukraine increased cargo transshipment by 7.6 percent to 78.779 million tons in the period of January-July 2014, compared with the same period of 2013, the Administration Seaports of Ukraine (ASU) announced, citing preliminary data.

State-owned port operators handled 27.850 million tons (35.4 percent of the total) while private operators handled 50.929 million tons through all berths (64.6 percent of the total), including 26.651 million tons through the ASU’s berths (33.8 percent).

Transshipment of export cargo increased by 17.5 percent to 57.323 million tons, transshipment of import cargo reduced by 16.2 percent to 8.312 million tons, transshipment of transit cargo reduced by 4.6 percent to 12.761 million tons, and transshipment of coastal cargo reduced by 66.6 percent to 384,000 tons.

The volume of transshipment of containers at seaports totaled 394,600 TEU, which is 10.4 percent less than the volume in January-July 2013.
