The Cherkasy airport plans to complete the repair of its runway before December 1. This was announced during a meeting between President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyi, local leaders, and journalists in Cherkasy.
The press service of the president of Ukraine announced this in a statement, he CFTS portal reports.
Zelenskyi inspected the Cherkasy airport during a working visit to the Cherkasy region on Wednesday.
The airport’s Director Ivan Dalibozhak said that the overhaul of the runway began in 2018 and that it is scheduled to reopen before December 1, 2019. According to him, the cost of the overhaul is UAH 128 million.
The president asked how much time and money were needed to complete the work. According to local officials, it will take two years and about UAH 750 million.
The Cherkasy airport was opened in 1984. It had the status of an international airport and handled up to 80 flights per day. Airplanes stopped performing regular flights to the airport in 1997, and the airport stopped receiving airplanes in 2001. The overhaul of the runway began in 2018. The overhaul reached 43% completion in mid-July 2019.
According to the airport’s management, at least UAH 650 million needs to be invested in the airport.
