A subsidiary of the Chinese-based CRRC company, which is the largest rolling stock manufacturer in the world, has won an international tender for supply of subway trains for the Kharkiv subway.
According to the Xinhua news agency, the order for the subway trains will be placed by the Kharkiv Metro utility company, which invited tenders for supply of the trains in June 2019.
The winner of the tender is CRRC Tangshan Co., Ltd., a company based in Tangshan, north China's Hebei Province.
The deal is to be completed in 35 months. The Kharkiv Metro utility company will purchase 40 subway cars, spare parts, tools, and components from CRRC Tangshan.
According to Xinhua, each subway car will have a width of 2.675 meters, a height of 3.650 meters, and a length of 96.18 meters. The trains are designed for tracks of the 1520-mm gauge and a maximum speed of 80 km/h.
According to the company, the deal with the Kharkiv Metro utility company was CRRC Tangshan’s second on the European urban rail transport market.
Moreover, the company already has experience of working with foreign partners. Prior to this, CRRC Tangshan supplied broad-gauge trains to Turkmenistan and Kazakhstan, exported many tramcars and subway cars to two Turkish cities, and received an order to supply light-rail trains to the Portuguese city of Porto following a tender.
