The Donetsk regional administration intends to initiate termination of the contract with the head of the Donetsk Railway. According to a statement on the website of the regional administration, a decision to this effect was made at a special meeting with the Donetsk region’s Deputy Governor Mykhailo Necheporuk, the Interfax Ukraine news agency reports.

"At the meeting, which was attended by representatives of the Security Service of Ukraine (SBU), it was stated that the Donetsk Railway did not undergo re-registration on the territory controlled by the Ukrainian authorities and that it has not been ensuring effective management of rail transport in the region for a long time," the statement said.

The territorial division of the SBU was asked to investigate the activities of the Donetsk Railway’s management to determine possible involvement in aiding illegal armed groups.

As reported, the Cabinet of Ministers recently ordered transfer of all the assets of the Donetsk Railway’s structural units located in the areas of the Donetsk and Lugansk regions that are under the control of the Ukrainian authorities to the Prydneprovskaya and Yuzhnaya railways.

In addition, the government decided that payment should be made for transportation of goods from departure stations on the Donetsk Railway to destination stations on other Ukrainian railways for the duration of the government’s anti-terrorist operations against separatists.

Ihor Romanenko, who was previously the Donetsk Railway’s deputy head in charge of rolling stock and logistics, is currently the acting head of the railway.
