The first 12 Tram 2000 tramcars from Switzerland have begun operating on the city routes in Vinnytsia.

Vinnytsia Mayor Serhii Morhunov announced this in a statement, the CFTS portal reports.

Vinnytsia received the tramcars this spring in the second phase of the "Zurich Trams" project.

"Unlike the Mirage and Karpfen models, these tramcars have different technical characteristics, such as fewer engines and larger passenger capacity: 109 standing and 48 sitting passengers. The tramcars are equipped with soft seats and have lower footrests, which will be convenient for children and elderly passengers. By the way, we are currently studying the possibility of additional modification of these tramcars for the convenience of people with limited mobility," he said.

Before these tramcars began operating on Vinnytsia routes, the transport company's employees adapted them to Ukrainian standards. They installed a new information system, a ticket validation system, and a button for alerting the driver. They also equipped the tramcars with headlights and mirrors in accordance with the requirements of Ukrainian legislation.

Under the agreement with Switzerland, Vinnytsia is to receive 32–35 tramcars this year. "We expect the next four tramcars to be delivered next week. Four more are due in August," Morhunov said.
