Prime Minister Volodymyr Groysman expects the Ukrainian Railways public joint-stock company (Ukrzaliznytsia) and the General Electric Transportation company, which is part of the General Electric holding company, to begin production of traction rolling stock (locomotives) in 2018. Groysman announced this at a news briefing at the Yerystove mining and processing plant during a working trip to the Poltava region on Thursday, October 26, the Interfax Ukraine news agency reports.

"We are currently working on modernization of, for example, Ukrzaliznytsia. We need traction, and we are talking about being able to begin joint production with General Electric next year, I think," Groysman said.

The prime minister expects an agreement on commencement of production to be signed before the end of this year.

Groysman stressed the importance of achieving a high degree of localization of mechanical engineering in Ukraine.

Minister of Infrastructure Volodymyr Omelian recently said that Ukrzaliznytsia could sign a framework agreement on cooperation with General Electric Transportation in November. A number of high-level meetings were held with a delegation from this company recently.
