The Mosquito Mobile project is launching the first three Wi-Fi Internet access zones at Kiev subway stations, the Economic Pravda publication reports, citing Jeff Howley, the general director of the Fidomobile company, which is implementing the project.

According to him, the network at the Lva Tolstova subway station has already been launched while the networks at the Maidan Nezalezhnist and Olympiiska subway stations are expected to be launched before the end of the week.

As reported earlier, Fidomobile won the tender to build a Wi-Fi network in the Kiev subway. About UAH 100 million will be invested in the project. Wi-Fi will be provided free of charge at the first subway stations. Later, the service will be available in two versions - free and paid (with a higher speed).

According to Howley, the implementation of the first phase of the project has been greatly delayed because of bureaucracy. For the project, it was necessary to prepare 2,100 pages of documentation and secure its approval by various agencies.

Howley previously said that Mosquito’s communications services would be qualitatively different from the usual Internet. "The technology will provide speeds exceeding the 4G data transfer speeds. It offers speeds of up to 100 Mbit/s when trains are traveling at speeds up to 100 km/h... The infrastructure project will allow passengers to be in constant communication throughout their trips," he said.
