To resolve the issue of transit, the Ministry of Infrastructure expects to begin construction of the Lviv-Kherson motorway in 2017 if the necessary funds are available. Minister of Infrastructure Volodymyr Omelian announced this on Monday, the Interfax Ukraine news agency reports.

"If we manage to get double the amount that the Prime Minister is promising, we will be able to begin systematic construction of roads. In particular, we have to hold tender procedures this year and begin construction of a major European highway connecting Lviv and Kherson next year," the minister said on the 5 Kanal television channel on Monday, 5 September.

According the minister, construction of this road will solve the problem of movement of goods between the southern ports of the country and the European Union. "That is why the road is being built. I think this project will be successful, we will find good contractors," he said.

Prime Minister Volodymyr Groisman recently announced that the Cabinet of Ministers planned to allocate UAH 30-40 billion for road repairs in the 2017 state budget.
