Iran is interested in launching new flights to Ukraine, particularly flights linking the two countries’ major administrative centers. Iranian Ambassador to Ukraine and Moldova Mohammad Beheshti-Monfared announced this at a press conference in Kyiv on Friday, the CFTS correspondent reports.

"We have plans regarding flights to Odesa, Lviv, and Kherson from the administrative centers of Iran. For example, a Tabriz-Kherson flight," Beheshti-Monfared said. The ambassador did not specify the launch dates of the new routes or the names of the relevant airlines.

As reported, Iranian airline Mahan Air will begin flying to Ukraine on 20 March. The carrier will operate flights between the capitals of the two countries, Tehran and Kyiv. "At the moment, our airline does not intend to launch flights to other cities of Ukraine," said Mahan Air’s Director of Marketing and Advertising Hussein Husseini. Now, the Iranian carrier intends to focus on Kyiv-Tehran flights.

Only two Ukrainian airlines – UIA and UM Air – currently perform flights between Iran and Ukraine. Passenger traffic between the capitals of the two countries exceeded 14,000 in 2015.
