The Regional Development Fund will allocate UAH 49 million for financing continuation of the reconstruction work at the Kherson airport in 2016. This was announced during presentation of plans for development of the airport during the period of 2016-2017, the press service of the Kherson regional administration announced.

The chairman of the regional council’s committee on municipal property, Yurii Rozhkov, said that reconstruction of the airport’s apron, runway, and taxiways, as well as installation of a high-intensity lighting system and an automatic aircraft landing system were planned for the next few years.

According to Rozhkov, about UAH 62 million was allocated for financing the reconstruction work at the airport in 2015: UAH 35.5 million from the state budget (the Regional Development Fund), UAH 10.6 million from the regional budget, and UAH 15.9 million in funds belonging to the municipally owned Kherson airlines (of which the airport is part). This money was used to start the reconstruction of the surface of the airport apron, repair the arrival and departure halls and the customs warehouse, purchase equipment for servicing the runway, starting engines, turbines, the luggage conveyor, etc.

It was reported in January that the Kherson airport spent UAH 30 million in the first phase of reconstruction of its airfield.
