Hutchison Ports and DP World, two of the largest port operators in the world, will begin operations in Ukraine this year. Infrastructure Minister Volodymyr Omelian announced this at a meeting with business representatives at the European Business Association, the CFTS correspondent reports.
According to the minister, Hutchinson Ports will begin operation at the Chornomorsk seaport in the period pf June-July this year and DP World will begin operation before the end of the year.
"We are currently negotiating with two major port players, Hutchison Ports and DP World. I hope that Hutchison Ports will enter the Chornomorsk seaport in June-July. As for DP World, this company will operate in one of the country’s largest ports before the end of this year. I am talking about the Odesa seaport n the context of port fleet,” said the minister.
As reported, Hutchison Ports has already signed a memorandum of understanding with the state-owned Chornomorsk seaport. The group is primarily interested in development and management of container terminals. It is already exploring the rear of the Chornomorsk seaport’s berths 1-6.
UAE-based DP World is interested in implementing projects in the Yuzhny and Chornomorsk seaports. The Ministry of Infrastructure signed a memorandum of cooperation with this group in Kyiv on 13 October. The managing director of P&O Maritime (part of the DP World group), Rado Antolovic, handed Minister of Infrastructure Volodymyr Omelian a proposal to optimize the tug fleet in the Odesa seaport on that day.
