Russian aggression has claimed the lives of 751 Ukrainian railway workers, including train drivers, track maintenance workers, inspectors, and conductors.
To honor these lives, the "Train of Iron Memory" was scheduled on Railway Workers' Day, with symbolic departures of the train announced at railway stations in Kyiv, Sloviansk, Odesa, Kharkiv, Lviv, and Dnipro, the CFTS portal reports, citing the Ministry of Development of Communities, Territories, and Infrastructure.
According to Ukraine's Deputy Prime Minister for Reconstruction Oleksii Kuleba, over 13,000 railway workers currently serve in the Ukrainian Armed Forces, fighting on the front lines.
The day before, Kuleba outlined the key priorities of the Ukrainian Railways joint-stock company (Ukrzaliznytsia) in the near future. The most important include infrastructure development and integration with the European Union, rapid and high-quality reconstruction, and expansion of medical and social evacuation services.
