According to a preliminary draft, the Kerch overpass will pass through the city of Kerch without exits into the city, a representative of the Giprogor company, which is developing area-planning schemes for the Crimea, told the ITAR TASS news agency, Maritime News reports.
The road junction at the end of the overpass is planned at the intersection of the Tavrida road outside the city. Giprogor considers this scheme negative for residents of the city. "The decision will not bring any benefit to residents of the city, they will not be able to fully use this road, and the areas adjacent to the route of the bridge will not be able to develop normally. Apart from the overpass, the plan to locate a construction site in the vicinity the Kerch Fortress, which is a historical and cultural monument, could have a negative impact on the development of the urban environment in Kerch,” the representative of the company told ITAR TASS, commenting on the situation.
The Giprotransmost company (a division of the Volgomost group of construction companies) is performing the feasibility study for the bridge. Avtodor, a Russian state-owned company, is responsible for the feasibility study.
The press service of Volgomost said that the final design of the bridge has not yet been prepared or approved. The engineering design work and feasibility studies necessary to conclude a contract for design and construction of the bridge over the Kerch Strait must be completed by 1 November 2014.
The order for the area-planning design for the areas adjacent to the bridge’s route on the territory of Kerch may be placed by the Kerch city administration if the necessary funds are available in the budget or the order may be placed by the developer of the bridge project. Development of the area-planning design for the seven-kilometer area adjacent to the exit from the bridge will cost around RUB 30 million (USD 832,000).
