European Investment Bank has loaned EUR 250 million to PKP PLK, Polish infrastructure manager, for upgrade 171 km Warsaw – Lublin line, a part of TEN-T North Sea – Baltic Corridor, as well as for revitalization the Lukow – Lublin alternative line. The agreement has signed on April 22.
The modernization of the Warsaw – Lublin line is the largest railway project ever financed by EIB. It allows increasing the speed of passenger and cargo traffic on the route. The upgrade will also improve the connectivity in Warsaw and Lublin metropolitan areas.
EIB has been financing rail projects in Poland for 25 years. The financial institution has already provided 15 loans to PKP PLK in the total amount EUR 2.3 billion.
The North Sea – Baltic Corridor runs from Belgium and Netherlands to Finland via Germany, Poland, Baltic States. The link connects the main maritime ports of North Sea (Amsterdam, Rotterdam, Antwerpen) with its Baltic counterparts (Klaipeda, Riga, Tallinn, Helsinki). The Corridor includes the Rail Baltic project providing by the Baltic States.
