Stowarzyszenie Kolejowych Przewozów Lokalnych (SKPL), the Polish railway company that will start operating trains on the Warsaw - Rava-Ruska route on 14 October, is also considering launching trains to the Ukrainian border station of Khyriv.

The company's Director Tomasz Strapagiel announced this in an interview with the CFTS portal.

Earlier, the SKPL Group announced its intention to extend the Sanok - Ustrzyki Dolne train route to the Ukrainian city of Khyriv. Asked about the progress that has been made in this area, Strapagiel told the CFTS portal: "Negotiations on this issue are still ongoing. We believe that two trains to Khyriv should be launched: one from Sanok and the other from Przemyśl. We have submitted applications to the Subcarpathian Voivodeship Administration and to the Ukrainian Railways joint-stock company (Ukrzaliznytsia)."

Strapagiel added that he did not know when these rail links could be established.

"However, I would like to emphasize that the infrastructure for this is ready, as the tracks to Khyriv have already been repaired in both directions. As for other possible directions, it is difficult for me to answer. This is more of a question for the governments of both countries and the local governments in the border regions," he added.

As reported earlier, on 17 February this year Ukrzaliznytsia and the Ukrainian Ministry of Communities, Territories, and Infrastructure announced the resumption of rail traffic on the route Ukrainian border - Strazhava - Khyriv - Nyzhankovychi - Ukrainian border (Line 102) after repairs. However, train traffic on this section of the Ukrainian-Polish border has not resumed.
