Polish rail carrier PKP Intercity plans to extend the route of one of its trains. This will allow creation of convenient connections between trains traveling to Przemysl from Warsaw and Kyiv, the company said.
"We plan to extend the route of the TLK Pomarańczarka train (Warszawa Zachodnia station - Rzeszów Główny station) to the Przemysl Główny station, where it will be possible to transfer to/from trains to Kyiv. Thanks to this, travel on the Warsaw-Lviv route with only one transfer will become possible," PKP Intercity’s spokesman Cezary Nowak said, the CFTS portal reports.
The spokesman for the Polish company did not specify whether the train’s timetable will change or whether the route will be extended without changing the current timetable. Currently, the TLK Pomarańczarka train departs from the Warszawa Zachodnia station at 05:36 daily and arrives at the Rzeszów Główny station at 11:12. The return journey from Rzeszow starts at 16:54 and arrives at Warszawa Zachodnia at 22:19.
If the plan involves only extension of the route, the TLK Pomarańczarka train will arrive in Przemysl at around 13:00 and embark on the return journey at approximately 15:00. Thus, the period for transfer between trains will be 1.5-2 hours. Considering the Kyiv-Przemysl train’s travel time, the total travel time for passengers will not exceed 15 hours. Besides, this time can be reduced by changing the time of the TLK Pomarańczarka train’s departure from Warsaw.
A direct train currently operates between Kyiv and Warsaw. Its route passes through Chelm and Lublin, and the travel time is about 17 hours.
According to PKP Intercity, the popularity of the IC Wyspiański train (from the Przemysl Główny station to the Wrocław Główny station) is also growing among passengers. Sale of tickets on this route increased by 100% after the launch of a Ukrainian train to in Przemysl because this allows passengers to transfer conveniently from one train to another in both directions. According to Nowak, PKP Intercity is constantly monitoring the occupancy of the IC Wyspiański train, and it is ready to launch an additional train if necessary.
