The new train timetable of the Ukrainian Railways joint-stock company (Ukrzaliznytsia) will include a second pair of international trains using PKP Intercity rolling stock on the Warsaw - Rava-Ruska - Lviv route.
Ukrzaliznytsia’s Board Chairman Oleksandr Pertsovskyi announced this during the presentation of Ukrzaliznytsia's timetables and routes for 2025, a CFTS correspondent reports.
According to him, transfers to trains traveling to Lviv, Ternopil, Chortkiv, Zalischyky, Chernivtsi, and Kolomyia will be arranged via Rava-Ruska.
"This will significantly expand the geography of connections between the western regions of Ukraine and Warsaw," the Ukrzaliznytsia said.
As the CFTS portal reported previously, Ukrzaliznytsia is in talks to launch a passenger train service between Warsaw and Rava-Ruska on 15 December, using rolling stock belonging to the Polish state railway operator PKP Intercity.
According to Ukrzaliznytsia, PKP Intercity already has experience operating in Ukraine: train No. 35/36 operated between Wroclaw and Lviv until 2013. RIC railcars belonging to PKP IC were used on this route. This service was operated every other day with a four-car train.
As reported previously, from 15 October 2023 (when the Warsaw - Rava-Ruska service was launched, using SKPL rolling stock) to 21 September 2024, the average occupancy rate for this route was 85%, with 104,400 passengers transported.
