The Frontier Youth, a capesize-class bulk carrier, docked for loading at the Illichivsk seaport’s berth No. 1 on 27 June, the CFTS reports. The bulk carrier will be loaded with 110,500 tons of iron-ore concentrate belonging to the Metinvest company at the Illichivsk seaport. In addition, 64,200 tons will be loaded onto the bulk carrier at the Yuzhny seaport. Thus, a total of 174,700 tons of iron-ore concentrate will be loaded onto the Frontier Youth.
The Illichivsk seaport’s head Serhii Kryzhanovskyi recently announced that the seventh capesize-class vessel in 2016 was expected to call at the seaport in late June. The seaport has also said that it intends to increase the speed and volume of transshipment of iron-ore concentrate and other bulk cargo. To this end, it is implementing investment programs for development of port waters and reconstruction of berths. According to Kryzhanovskyi, the seaport aims to reach a handling volume of more than 500,000 tons of iron-ore concentrate per month.
The Illichivsk seaport handled 1.42 million tons of ore cargoes in the first five months of 2016.
