The AM Gijon bulk carrier with 176,000 deadweight tons has entered the Illichivsk port to be loaded with iron ore, a source at the port told the CFTS. This is the third capesize vessel to call at the Illichivsk port in March.
As with the loading of the Anangel Astronomer and Anagel Mariner capesize vessels earlier, a combined loading method will be used: part of the vessel’s consignment will be loaded at the port’s berths 1 and 2 and the loading will be completed in the roads.
The rate of loading at the port has increased significantly and it is practically close to the rate of loading at the Yuzhny port, which is the Ilyichevsk port’s main competitor in the area of handling large-tonnage vessels. In particular, the loading rate of the Anagel Mariner capesize vessel (120,000 tons was loaded onto the vessel at the port and 54,400 tons in the roads) was more than 20,000 tons per day. The corresponding average loading rate at the Yuzhny port is 26,000 tons.
