Construction of the Yuzhny railway yard will be the next big infrastructural project of the Transinvestservice company (TIS). TIS’ Chairman Oleh Kutateladze announced this at a press conference on December 25, the CFTS portal reports.

According to Kutateladze, the future railway yard will have an area of 70 hectares. The project has already been approved, and the company is beginning work on it. "With commissioning of this railway yard, we will be able to help the Odessa railway to sort railcars at the station. Thus, a larger number - primarily grain cars - will be able to move normally toward the Yuzhny port,” Kutateladze said.

The Odessa railway’s first deputy head Hryhorii Boiko confirmed to reporters that the technical aspect of the project has been approved.

"Connection to the main railway line will be effected near the 30th kilometer, with entry to the Yuzhny station,” he said.

Kutateladze also said that TIS’ rail track currently has the status of an "approach track" and not a station. "At the same time, it processes more railcars than any port station on the Odessa railway. Actually, we form a transport hub that includes the railway station and a private station. We will take active participation in the redrafting of the new law on rail transport, and we will facilitate emergence of private infrastructure stations operating with the railway," he said.

According to him, the construction of the railway yard will create conditions that will enable 40 pairs of trains to move in the direction of Transinvestservis’ terminals per day. Currently, TIS receives 18 trains per day, processing 794 railcars. The company's terminals have processed 290,000 railcars in 2013.
