Ukraine exported 33.4 million tons of grain in the 2014-2015 marketing year (July 2014-June 2015), which is a record. Ukraine’s Minister of Agrarian Policy and Food Oleksii Pavlenko announced this at a government meeting, the UNIAN news agency reports.
"We achieved record export indicators in the current marketing year. As of today, we have exported 33.494 million tons of grain. Even compared with the previous record export year - 32.3 million tons - this is already a serious over-achievement," the minister said.
He stressed that the carryover volume exceeded last year’s carryover volume by 3.5 million tons. "We have enough bread and enough grain to maintain food security even in the face of crisis," said Pavlenko.
According to the minister, the concerns about disruption of crop sowing were unfounded, crop sowing has already been completed, and the target was achieved 100%. According to him, the total planted area corresponds to last year's 26.5 million hectares, including 14.8 million hectares of grain (7.9 million hectares of winter grain and 6.9 million hectares of spring grain).
