A Tarpan high-speed train (EKr1-001) arrived at the Kryukov Railcar Building Works (Kremenchuk, Poltava region) on 11 May to undergo maintenance. Such maintenance is required by the train’s current technical specifications, the press service of the Kryukov Railcar Building Works announced.

The maintenance will last 25 days.

As reported, the Tarpan dual-system, high-speed electric train (EKr1-001) was commissioned on 24 June 2014, when it performed its maiden trip on the Kyiv-Lviv route. It consists of nine railcars. It is capable of transporting 609 passengers per trip. Two seats are reserved for people with disabilities.

The train is capable of reaching speeds of up to 220 kilometers per hour. However, operational tests at this speed were not conducted because of refusal by the authorities and the Ukrzaliznytsia public railway company. According to the Kryukov Railcar Building Works, the new leaderships of Ukrzaliznytsia and the Ministry of Infrastructure are currently considering performance of such tests this summer. The Tarpan train operates at speeds of up to 160 kilometers per hour on Ukrainian railways.
