Ukrainian airline companies transported 8.1 million passengers in 2013, which corresponds to the number they transported in 2012, the Interfax Ukraine news agency reports, citing the State Aviation Service.
Commercial passenger and cargo transportation in 2013 were performed by 40 Ukrainian airline companies, which reduced performance of flights by 9.5% to 96,000 compared with 2012. The volume of transportation of cargo and mail reduced by 19.1% to 99,200 tons in 2013.
Ukrainian airline companies increased passenger transportation on international routes by 1.1% to 6.9 million in 2013, but reduced passenger transportation on domestic routes by 5.9% to 1.2 million. The ratio of airline companies’ international passenger traffic to domestic passenger traffic was 85% to 15% in 2013.
Eight airline companies performed regular domestic passenger traffic in 2013, including the new airline company Yanair. They provided air services to 14 cities in Ukraine.
Passenger transportation on regular domestic flights reduced by 5.8% to 1.17 million due to the redistribution of the passenger traffic of the AeroSvit airline company, which carried domestic passengers on its international flights, as well as due to the development of high-speed rail links between cities in the country.
Thirty-three Ukrainian airline companies operated on the passenger transport market in 2013, including the UIA (+69.5%), Wizz Air Ukraine (+58.1%), UTair Ukraine (2.3-fold increase), and Windrose (-15.6%).
Amid falling regular international flights in 2013 (-6.4% to 4.4 million passengers), Ukrainian airline companies increased passenger transportation abroad on charter flights by 18% to 2.5 million.
The average Passenger Load Factor on regular international flights increased by 3.1 percentage points to 77.9% compared with the previous year. Regular passenger traffic by Ukrainian airline companies accounted for 43% of the total volume of regular passenger traffic between Ukraine and other countries in the past year (a reduction of 7 percentage points compared with 2012).
During the year, 11 Ukrainian airline companies performed regular international passenger transportation to/from Ukraine from/to 44 countries. Passenger flights were performed regularly. The largest volumes of regular passenger flights were performed between Ukraine and Russia, Germany, Turkey, Austria, Israel, France, the Netherlands, Poland, United Arab Emirates, Georgia, and Italy.
