The Ukrainian Sea Ports Authority and Novadeal Ltd, which is a subsidiary of the DEME Group (Belgium), have signed a contract for maintenance dredging of the Yuzhny seaport’s internal water area and its internal approach channel. The signing ceremony took place at the embassy of Belgium in Kyiv on Tuesday, the CFTS correspondent reports.

The Yuzhny port authority’s head Maksym Shirokov signed the agreement on behalf of the Ukrainian Sea Ports Authority and the DEME Group’s Deputy Regional Director Jean-Pierre Desmanet signed it on behalf of Novadeal Ltd.

Belgium’s Ambassador to Ukraine Luc Jacobs and Ukraine’s Deputy Minister of Infrastructure Viktor Dovhan also attended the signing ceremony.

"Belgium and Ukraine are maritime nations, we have ports, and we know how to use them. Belgian companies are leaders in the area of dredging. This contract is a recognition of the DEME Group. I think that it will not be the last for the Belgian company," said Jacobs.

"I hope that this contract will mark the beginning of closer cooperation for us," said Desmanet.

According to the terms of the relevant tender, Novadeal Ltd will perform maintenance dredging of the operational water areas of the port’s berths Nos. 2-4, 7-9, 16, 17, 3H, and 38. The estimated volume of dredging work is 411,200 cubic meters. It will be completed before the end of this year.

This contract completed the dredging program at the Yuzhny port.

"We are pleased that Novadeal Ltd, which is part of the DEME Group, will be our partner in this project. With this third contract, we have completed the dredging program in the Yuzhny port. I want to wish our contractors successful work and performance of the work on time," the Ukrainian Seaports Authority’s head Raivis Veckagans said.

As reported, Novadeal Ltd also participated in two other tenders for performance of dredging work at the Yuzhny port. However, the Belgian company lost to the Chinese contractor China Harbor Engineering Company Ltd. (CHEC). The contracts resulting from these tenders were signed in the second half of May.
