The Ukrainian Sea Ports Authority performed maintenance dredging works at the Mykolaiv, Odesa, Chornomorsk, and Olvia seaports, as well as in the Dnister Liman approach channel, the Dnipro-Bug Liman channel, and the Danube-Black Sea approach channel, in the first six months of 2017, the Ukrainian Seaports Authority announced.
The maintenance dredging works were performed both by external organizations under existing contracts and by the Ukrainian Sea Ports Authority’s own dredging fleet. External organizations performed a total of 0.33 million cubic meters of maintenance dredging works in the Dnister Liman approach channel (implementation of the relevant contract has been completed) and in water basin of the Mykolaiv seaport (implementation of the relevant contract is continuing).
The Ukrainian Sea Ports Authority’s own dredging fleet performed maintenance dredging works in the waters of the seaports Odesa, Chornomorsk (dredging works in these ports have been completed), and Olvia, as well as in the Dnister Liman approach channel, the Dnipro-Bug Liman channel, and the Danube-Black Sea approach channel (dredging works are continuing in the second half of the year). The total volume of dredging works performed by the company’s own fleet was about 0.47 million cubic meters.
"The volume of dredging works at all these facilities was about 0.8 million cubic meters. To expand our capabilities involving performance of dredging works we will acquire new modern dredgers in the next five years in accordance with the strategy for renewal of the Ukrainian Seaports Authority’s fleet," the Ukrainian Seaports Authority’s head Raivis Veckagans said.
There are always long periods of spawning bans (spring-summer) in the first half of the year, during which dredging without special agreement with the State Fish Protection Agency is prohibited, and periods of ice campaigns (winter), during which dredging work is not performed.
According to the Ukrainian Sea Ports Authority’s information on dredging works in 2017, maintenance dredging works are scheduled to be performed at the Reni port (tenders have been invited via the ProZorro electronic public procurement system), the Kherson and Odesa ports (tenders will be invited this week), and the Mariupol and Berdiansk seaports, as well as in the approach channel to the Mykolaiv seaport and the Bug-Dnipro Liman and Kherson sea approach channels.
