The Ukrainian Sea Ports Authority and China Harbor Engineering Company Ltd. signed an agreement for dredging of the Yuzhny port in Kyiv on May 18.
The Yuzhny port authority’s head Maksym Shirokov signed the agreement on behalf on the Ukrainian side.
In addition to the management of the Ukrainian Sea Ports Authority, the signing ceremony was attended by Ukraine’s Prime Minister Volodymyr Groysman, China’s Ambassador to Ukraine Du Wei, and Ukraine’s Minister of Infrastructure Volodymyr Omelian. China Construction Communications Company’s President Assistant Wen Gang, and a vice president of China Harbor Engineering Company Ltd participated in the signing of the agreement.
The agreement provides for increase of the depth of the port’s approach channel from 16 meters to 19 meters and creation of an operational water body with a depth of 16 meters near the Yuzhny seaport’s berths Nos. 23, 24, and 25.
As the CFTS portal reported, China Communications Construction Co., Ltd. may participate in a tender for operation of the Chornomorsk ferry as a concession. Talks to this effect are expected to begin after the signing of this agreement.
The state-owned China Harbor Engineering Company was established in 1980. It focuses on the construction of facilities in seaports (terminals, berths, bridges, dry docks, etc). Dredging is an important part of its operations. About 90% of the large and medium terminals in China were built by China Harbor Engineering Company. The company currently has about 60 foreign representative offices, which serve customers in 80 countries.
China Harbor Engineering Company merged with China Road and Bridge Corporation, which specializes in construction of roads and bridges, in 2005 to create China Communications Construction Co., Ltd.
