Port operators in Ukrainian seaports handled 20.583 million tons of cargo in the period of January-February 2021, which is 6.538 million tons or 24.1% less than they handled in the corresponding period of last year.

The Ukrainian Seaports Authority (USPA) announced this in a statement, the CFTS portal reports.

Transshipment of export cargo reduced by 23.1% to 16.147 million tons, transshipment of import cargo by 27.7% to 3.072 million tons, transshipment of transit cargo by 28.1% to 1.215 million tons, and transshipment of cabotage cargo by 18.4% to 147,730 tons.

"The negative dynamics was caused by the reduction of cargo exports by 38.1% to 5.613 million tons, the reduction of iron ore imports by 19.4% to 995,700 tons, the reduction of coal exports by 72.2% to 394,250 tons, and the reduction of container handling by 6.6% to 162,400 TEU," the statement said.

Meanwhile, the volume of transshipment of crude oil increased by 350,330 tons or 4.1-fold during this period.

As the CFTS reported previously, Ukrainian seaports handled 10.052 million tons of cargo in January 2021, which is 25.5% less than they handled in the same month of 2020.
