The draft state budget for 2019 allocates UAH 500 million for paying the salaries of postal workers delivering pensions.

Minister of Infrastructure Volodymyr Omelian announced this on his Facebook page, the CFTS portal reports.

"The draft budget for 2019 allocates UAH 500 million for Ukrposhta for the first time in a decade. This money will be used exclusively to finance the salaries of last-mile postal workers. Thus, we will be able to ensure uninterrupted delivery of pensions and guarantee protection of the jobs and salaries of those Ukrposhta employees that ensure the state’s presence in the smallest settlements in Ukraine," he wrote.

As reported, Ukrposhta’s management recently threatened to stop delivering pensions in 2019 if the government failed to raise the tariff for this service. According to Ukrposhta’s General Director Ihor Smelianskyi, the company has been forced to stop purchasing vehicles and repairing its branches because of losses.
