The Ukrainian Railways public joint-stock company (Ukrzaliznytsia) will paint its old passenger cars in a new livery similar to that of the “Train of Four Capitals” after completing their overhaul.
Ukrzaliznytsia’s acting Board Chairman Yevhen Kravtsov announced this on Facebook.
“We are testing a new livery for passenger cars. We will paint [the old passenger cars] after their overhaul and reconditioning and those that are currently being built for the railroad,” Kravtsov wrote.
According to him, this will also help passengers to identify such railcars immediately.
“The new quality of rail transport that we are introducing step by step involves not only painting trains in corporate colors. This railcar is the first in which each compartment has an independent temperature control. We will continue to practice this,” Kravtsov wrote.
According to him, Ukrzaliznytsia has repaired 46 passenger cars with its own resources since the beginning of this year. Only two cars had undergone overhaul and reconditioning as of the same period last year.
“The plan is to restore an additional 53 by December 2018. We expect the first new cars produced by the Kryukov Railcar Building Works to be added to our fleet in a few months,” Kravtsov wrote.
As reported, the Kryukov Railcar Building Works won a tender for supply of 54 passenger cars to Ukrzaliznytsia in July. The passenger cars are to be delivered by July 1, 2019.
Ukrzaliznytsia spent UAH 329 million on repair of 40 passenger cars in the period of January-May this year.
