Production of grain wagons has been established in Ukraine based on the principle of maximum import substitution.

The board chairman of the Ukrainian Railways joint-stock company (JSC Ukrzaliznytsia), Yevhen Kravtsov, announced this on Facebook, the CFTS portal reports.

"This is the first time that the company has built a grain carrier by itself at its own facilities. All the components and materials are Ukrainian-made (except elements of the braking equipment). We are keeping our promise of maximum import substitution and cooperation with domestic producers," Kravtsov wrote.

The grain carrier was manufactured at the Paniutynskyi railcar repair plant.

The prototype model 19-6938 has a body volume of 120 cubic meters, compared with a maximum of 94 cubic meters for the old model. It has a design speed of up to 120 kilometers per hour.

According to Kravtsov, the prototype has passed the required tests and secured the right to operate in the Commonwealth of Independent States and the Baltic states.

As the CFTS portal reported earlier, the Kryukov Railcar Building Works (Kremenchuk, Poltava region) will produce two new models of the grain carriers.
