The Ukrainian Railways public joint-stock company (Ukrzaliznytsia) transported 82.7 million tons of freight in the period of January-March 2017, which is 5.9% more than the volume it transported in the corresponding period of 2016.
According to Ukrzaliznytsia, transportation of transit freight increased by 15.7% or 754.6 million tons/kilometer in the first quarter of 2017. The company did not provide specific figures, indicating only the dynamics of changes. Based on the published data, the transit freight volume was about 5.561 billion tons/kilometer.
The company’s working fleet of freight cars increased by an average of 2,222 or 1.6% (to approximately 141,100 freight cars) in the first quarter of 2017. The turnaround period of freight cars accelerated by 0.36 days or 3.6% to about 9.64 days.
The average daily productivity of freight cars increased by 265 tons/kilometer net or 7.9% to 3,619 tons/kilometer net, the fleet of freight locomotives in operation increased by 34 or 2% to 1,734, the average daily productivity of locomotives increased by 18,000 tons/kilometer or 1.3% to about 1,402,614 tons/kilometer.
According to the company, 46.6 million passengers used railway services in the period of January-March 2017, which is 3.7% more than the number in the same period of 2016.
According to Ukrzaliznytsia’s consolidated financial report, the company made a net profit of UAH 12.8 million in the first quarter of 2017, compared with a net loss of about UAH 2 billion in the same period of 2016. Its net sales revenue during the reporting period amounted to almost UAH 18 billion, which is 21.5% more than its net sales revenue in the first quarter of 2016.
