Transportation of transit freight by the Ukrainian Railways public joint-stock company (Ukrzaliznytsia) increased by 17.6% in October 2018, compared with the previous month.
According to Ukrzaliznytsia’s Economic and Finance Director Andrii Riazantsev, the increase in the volume of transportation of transit freight was due to an increase in the turnover of individual product groups, the CFTS portal reports.
“Transit is one of the most profitable items for Ukrzaliznytsia, and we are now seeing an increase in transit volumes. The volume of transportation of transit freight increased by 17.6%in October this year, compared with September. This was made possible by transportation of other product groups by rail, as well as by a significant increase in the volume of transportation of high-margin cargoes," Riazantsev said.
The volume of transportation of cars on transit increased by 51%, ferrous metals by 45.8%, mineral building materials by 43.4%, chemical fertilizers by 27.5%, bituminous coal by 21%, and machinery and equipment by 16.3% in October 2018, compared with September.
As reported earlier, the volume of transportation of transit freight by rail between Ukraine and Russia has reduced five-fold in six years.
Ukrzaliznytsia created the UZ Cargo Wagon subsidiary in early November. The subsidiary will be in charge of freight cars.
