The State Railway Administration (Ukrzaliznytsia) is planning to purchase 15 diesel trains from the Kryukov Railcar Building Works (Kremenchug, Poltava region).
According to a press release by Ukrzaliznytsia, a diesel train from the Kryukov Railcar Building Works will undergo tests in the mountain areas of the Carpathians in the near future.
At the same time, the head of the Kryukov Railcar Building Works’ supervisory board Volodymyr Prykhodko told journalists that the final decision on purchase of the diesel trains should be made in September this year. Depending on this decision, the first buyer of the diesel trains will be either Ukraine or Kazakhstan.
The DPKr2 commuter diesel train is the latest train to be developed by the Kryukov Railcar Building Works. According to a statement by the Kryukov Railcar Building Works, a train that can operate at temperatures ranging from +50 to -50 degrees Celsius has been designed for the first time in areas where the 1520-mm gauge is used.
The diesel train, like the Kryukov Railcar Building Works’ interregional trains, is equipped with a crash system that is designed to protect train drivers and passengers. The three-car train can carry a maximum of 637 passengers (including standing passengers).
The train has tightly sealed inter-car gangways, a climate control system, and other amenities. If necessary, it can operate not only on commuter, but also on interregional routes. With minimal changes, electric commuter trains (Elektrichka) can be created based on these diesel trains, the Kryukov Railcar Building Works said. The company added that 70% of the trains’ components are manufactured in in Ukraine and 30% are imported.
