According to Bohdanov, Ukrzaliznytsia’s plans for the period of 2018-2019 included purchase of 35 locomotives (it has already purchased 30 locomotives manufactured by the General Electric company). The company would like to purchase 42 locomotives in 2020. In addition, it plans to purchase 38 in 2021, 40 in 2022, 55 in 2023, 55 in 2024, and 45 in 2025.

These include 90 passenger locomotives (it plans to buy 5 in 2019, 15 per year in the period of 2020-2022, and 20 per year in the period of 2023-2024), 70 freight locomotives (15 per year in the period of 2018-2020 and 5 per year in the period of 2021-2025). The remaining 150 are electric locomotives of various types.

According to Ukrzaliznytsia’s development strategy for the period of 2017–2021, the company’s working fleet of mainline electric locomotives constitutes 66% of its inventory rolling stock. The working fleet of mainline diesel locomotives is 42% of the inventory rolling stock. Ukrzaliznytsia increased its capital investments 1.5-fold in 2018 and plans to increase it by 45% in 2019.

As the CFTS portal reported earlier, the Alstom company intends to supply 500 electric locomotives to Ukrzaliznytsia.
