The Ukrzaliznytsia public joint-stock company is preparing a program for improving the technical conditions of railways in the period of 2016-2025. The press service of the company announced this to the CFTS portal.
According to Ukrzaliznytsia, shunting and mainline locomotives of the series ChME3, M62, 2TE116, 2TE10ut, and 2M62 are subject to modernization. The relevant decision was made at a meeting of Ukrzaliznytsia technical council on 30 September.
As reported, the Newag company (Poland) said in November that it might participate in modernization of Ukrainian locomotives. According to the Ukrzaliznytsia, negotiations are not being held with Newag and its partner, Skinest Ukraine. Modernization and procurement of locomotives will take place on a competitive basis.
The Rail World Ukraine company upgraded two M62 locomotives for Ukrzaliznytsia in 2011.
