Infrastructure Minister Volodymyr Omelian has announced the next stage of modernization of the Ukrzaliznytsia public railway company’s passenger cars. Ukrzaliznytsia plans to replace the blinds on its trains with roller shutters and introduce Wi-Fi, vacuum toilets, and others.
"We will overhaul up to 100 passenger cars this year and 200 next year. Modern, with vacuum toilets. There seems to be a decision on smooth operation of Wi-Fi on trains and introduction of electronic tickets for suburban trains. We will begin discussions next week. Changes will be made to the standards, do away with ‘feather’ pillows and dusty blankets... And, yes, we will remove the curtains… Exclusively roller shutters on windows," the minister wrote on his Facebook page.
According to him, another focus of attention is introduction of a single corporate style for Ukrzaliznytsia, both in trains and railway stations.
Omelian said that by December 2016 all tickets, names of railway station, announcements, and information on boards would be written exclusively in the Ukrainian and English languages.
