In total, 6.2 million tons of construction materials used for road construction have been transported by rail in Ukraine since the beginning of 2017. Only 4.5 million tons of building materials were transported domestically, including 183,000 tons of sand and 2.1 million tons of crushed stone.
The CFTS portal reported this, citing information from the Ukrainian Railways public joint-stock company (Ukrzaliznytsia).
"We are well aware of the role of Ukrzaliznytsia in repair and improvement Ukrainian roads. We have prepared rolling stock and railway infrastructure for timely delivery pf construction materials for road works," Ukrzaliznytsia’s Board Chairman Wojciech Balczun said.
As the CFTS portal reported earlier, the acting head of the State Road Service (Ukravtodor), Slawomir Nowak, has said that the situation involving potholes on Ukrainian roads this year is the worst in recent years. Nowak also said that Ukravtodor has only UAH 3 billion for repair and reconstruction of roads this year, which is less than the amount it has last year.
