United Nations Secretary-General Antonio Guterres has appointed the permanent coordinator for the United Nations at the Joint Coordination Center in Istanbul.

The CFTS portal reported this, citing the Black Sea News publication.

According to the United Nations’ website, the permanent coordinator is Amir Mahmoud Abdulla, the former deputy director of the World Food Program (WFP).

Abdulla, a Sudanese, replaces Frederick Kenney of the United States, who was on loan from the International Maritime Organization as interim coordinator for the United Nations at the Joint Coordination Center.

According to the United Nations, Abdulla brings over 30 years of experience in the areas of humanitarian response and management at the World Food Programme, as well as specialized expertise in emergency operations, supply chain, and security.
