Between 1 million and 1.5 million cars with foreign number plates are currently operating on Ukrainian roads while only 178,000 cars with foreign number plates are currently insured in the country.
The relevant data was provided by the general director of the All-Ukrainian Association of Automobile Importers and Dealers, Oleh Nazarenko, during a panel discussion on automobile with foreign number plates, which took place in Kyiv on Thursday, the CFTS correspondent reports.
According to Nazarenko, registration of cars in Lithuanian companies costs EUR 1,000-1,400. According to him, Ukrainian motorists choose this option because of the high rate of taxation of cars imported into Ukraine.
Nazarenko said that the way to solve this problem is to lower the tax.
As reported, owners of cars with foreign number plates protested in Kyiv earlier this year, demanding adoption of a draft law aimed at solving the problem of temporary importation of cars with foreign number plates into Ukraine.
Meanwhile, Latvia imposed a tax on cars with foreign number plates on 1 January 2017.
