The Zaporizhia International Airport intends to build another terminal for domestic flights, the Interfax Ukraine news agency reports, citing the Zaporizhia mayor’s office.
The relevant draft decision was submitted to members of the city council’s Standing Committee on the City’s Vital Operations for consideration.
According to the airport’s Director Viktor Biskupskyi, the airport currently operates a single terminal that is capable of handling only one domestic or international flight. It has a capacity of 120 passengers per hour. There are difficulties if more than 200 passengers arrive. Implementation of the project requires UAH 5.6 million.
According to the report, there are already proposals to increase the number of domestic flights. Experts with the airport estimate that its additional annual profit will amount to UAH 4-4.5 million.
As reported, the Ministry of Infrastructure has included the Zaporizhia International Airport in the State Target Program for Development of Airports until 2023.
According to the Zaporizhia region’s acting Governor Kostiantyn Bryl, talks on attracting investment to the airport are already underway. "More than UAH 611 million is intended for restoration of the Zaporizhia airport. The funds will be provided by the state or obtained in the form of state-guarantee loans. I think it will be a decisive step toward bringing the airport in line with international infrastructural standards," Bryl said earlier.
