Alstom, a French-based manufacturer of rolling stock, expects to sign commercial contracts for supply of its electric locomotives to Ukraine in the second half of 2021.

The company announced this in a statement, the CFTS portal reports.

"Alstom welcomes the ratification of the intergovernmental agreement between France and Ukraine on financing the supply of 130 heavy-duty electric locomotives to Ukrzaliznytsia. This agreement was ratified by the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine on July 1, 2021.

“The next important step is the signing of commercial agreements in the second half of 2021. This will allow us to begin delivering modern locomotives to the Ukrainian market, which will also provide for 35% of localization of the production and maintenance of electric locomotives," the French manufacturer said in a statement.

As reported earlier, the purchase of the electric locomotives will be financed with state budget funds and foreign loans. In particular, France will provide loans for financing 85% of the transaction. In total, the of contracts are worth EUR 882.5 million.
