The Antonov state enterprise has delivered the fifth An-158 airplane to the Cubana de Aviacion airline company.
"We signed the certificate of delivery and acceptance for the An-158 with the Cubans yesterday, and it is flying to Cuba today," the Antonov Serial Production Plant’s Director Mykola Podhrebelnyi told a press conference on Friday, the CFTS reports.
The airplane is being delivered through the Ilyushin Finance leasing company (Russia) within the framework of the current contract.
Earlier, the press service of Antonov announced that one more An-158 and one An-148 would be delivered to Cuba by the end of the year. In total, six aircraft of various models are currently in the assembling shop.
The An-158 airplane is a modification of the An-148 regional jet. It is designed to transport 99 passengers over a distance of 2,500 kilometers and 62 passengers over a distance of 4,200 kilometers. The maiden flight of the airplane took place at the end of April 2011. According to the developers of the airplane, the new model is cheaper to operate than the An-148 because its fuel efficiency is higher by 10-17%, depending on configuration.
