British Petroleum (BP) remains a "shadow" shareholder of the Rosneft energy company, retaining all the rights and dividends corresponding to its stake in the company.
Rosneft’s head Igor Sechin stated this in Baku (Azerbaijan), the CFTS portal reports, citing the Interfax news agency.
"I would like to inform our esteemed colleagues that despite the BP board of directors’ heated statements on 27 February that it had decided to divest itself of Rosneft, the company has failed to do so and remains—I would say—a shadow shareholder despite all the rhetoric. It does not participate in the work of the company's governing bodies, but it retains all the rights and dividends corresponding to its stake. Taking this opportunity, I want to convey to our friends at BP that their dividends of USD 700 million for the second half of 2021 have been transferred into accounts opened for them," Sechin said.
As reported previously, BP announced in March that it would not conclude new contracts for the purchase of Russian oil and gas.
